'Professionals' come in all shapes and sizes, be they teachers, social workers, home/school/community co-ordinators, youth workers, parenting practitioners, clergy etc.

You’ve worked hard and enjoyed the empathy; rapport and trust you’ve created and perhaps you need a little help in moving them to the next stage. This is where coaching comes in; coaching skills empower those you work with to take responsibility for the changes they want in their lives. However, you may find that when they aren't paying for your service it is more challenging to hold them accountable for keeping up their commitment and motivation.

This is where Develop Your Child has been operating in the last 6 years, perfecting and honing a range of advanced coaching and emotional literacy techniques to successfully empower all sorts of people including teenage parents, disaffected children and hard to reach families. That is not to say we don’t have some drop out, but what we do have is a huge number of children and adults creating their own transformations within their lives. Taking responsibility for themselves, making better life choices, changing family relationships and Mum’s finding their voice.

Coaching takes over where counselling stops. Coaching is focused on the future and not the past. Coaches recognise their clients’ potential and call forth their power, rather than concentrating on something to fix. Coaches support the individual's ability to find the answer within by asking powerful, creative questions. Then the magic - creating a success strategy with sustainability built in.

We start by helping them see they are not failures and doomed to a second rate existence, they go on to appreciate that they can manage their feelings, emotions and behaviour, then life starts to open up for them.

Our core curriculum includes:
  1. Use of the Power of Thought – how our thoughts, feelings and emotions affect us
  2. Understand how we can manage our behaviour and create our own reality
  3. Practice success breeds success
  4. Differentiate between influence verses control and choice verses responsibility
  5. Practice Levels of Listening, how we can trust our instincts/intuition etc
  6. Create SMART (Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Tangible/Timed) goals
  7. Create a sustainability strategy
There are millions of people who support children and families both in the public and private sector. Every single one of you can easily learn these leading edge techniques, and become so much more effective in your role.

You’ve already done the hard part in creating your unique relationship, now is the time to take the next step. Our unique approach, based on advanced coaching and emotional literacy techniques allows our clients to trust their instincts.

Alan Wilson
began his career in the advertising and marketing industry over thirty years ago and has a proven track record of achievement, developing a successful group of creative production companies. His ethos was to challenge and support his clients to create a differential from their competitors. A marketing strategy was created to promote their unique solution, which invariably led to satisfied and profitable clients despite their competitive environments.

Eventually, Alan became frustrated with a lack of new challenges and began to look for something more meaningful. He underwent a period of self-examination and reflection and investigated many complementary therapies. He came to the conclusion that he needed to pursue a career where he could make a real difference to other people and, in particular, to the lives of children.

His own life coaching training followed and trained in parent coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and complementary therapies. Alan is now committed to a life-long quest of personal development and growth.

He started by writing programmes for children of all ages to create a sound foundation of self-esteem and confidence. It soon became obvious that, although the children benefited from the experience and it was fulfilling to help them, they still went home to the same environment. He realised that, for the programme to have maximum impact, parents needed to be involved too. Conventional 'parenting skills/courses' tell parents what to say and do in particular situations. Alan’s unique approach asks the parents what they want to achieve by asking powerful questions to help them unlock the answers and strategies they inherently hold. This programme has been extremely successful in helping parents from all walks of life to move forward, value their children and create more respectful family relationships.

He has just completed a whole-family coaching programme to engage all members of the family. This work has been written up in the the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, CCYP Journal. He plans to extend this approach into schools and work with educators. Alan sees these schools creating an ethos of empowerment at the heart of the community, along the lines of Children's Trust and extended schools.

He has published his first book 'Listen to your children... and they will listen to you' to break through the communication barrier. Produced a video 'Kids are really different these days' to explain how and why parenting and educational methods of the past are no longer working for today's children. Started a charity Every Family Matters and is now extending the work world wide with the establishment of a network of trainer/coaches.
